Dentists Across Colorado Give Kids a Smile by Providing Free Dental Care! Who: Over 200 dentists across Colorado have registered for Give Kids a Smile Day to provide free dental attention to children who are without dental insurance and from low-income families. Who Qualifies: Children WITHOUT dental insurance and/or CHP coverage from families who cannot afford dental care. What: Give Kids a Smile Day is a national program that provides kids with free dental treatment and education. This is an event to help children without access to dental care. When: Friday, February 3, 2012 Where: Treatment and education will be provided in private dental offices, dental clinics and schools across the state. Why: February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Give Kids a Smile Day is held annually to: Provide free dental services to local, uninsured children who would otherwise not receive dental care. Raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease occurring in Colorado and across the country. The health and safety of our students is critically important. For this reason, the District is encouraging parents to take preventative measures in dealing with illnesses like the flu and pertussis (whooping cough). Flu shots are highly recommended for students but are not required; however, all students entering the 6th grade are required by state law to receive Pertussis (Tdap) vaccinations. Click here for more information on where to get these shots. GT Identification: Search for Students Nomination InformationEach year elementary and middle schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas. The search for gifted/talented students begins with an opportunity for parents and/or teachers to refer students for review. Once referrals are received, a team of educators review student CSAP data, standardized test scores, rating scales and other school data to determine student eligibility. If you believe that your child qualifies and would benefit from district Gifted/Talented services, please pick up a nomination form from your school office, or contact your school’s Gifted/Talented resource teacher or liaison, Karen Gardner.

Tardy Policy By St. Vrain District Board Policy, 3 unexcused tardies equals a half-day absence. Students are encouraged to be on time for every period of the day as it could result in attendance infractions. Students who are late for school will be considered unexcused unless parent notification has been made to the school. If a student is on an attendance contract or a timeliness contract, the school will need a doctor’s note for being late. Since October 4, Coal Ridge began implementing consequences for unexcused tardies. Here’s how it works: A tardy report is run every Monday morning. For every 5 unexcused tardies overall, not just in one class, a student will serve a 30 minute detention and parents will be notified by the Campus Supervisor. Further infractions will be as follows: Please contact Kate Ault @ 303-833-4176 with any questions or concerns.
